Variable Speed Pool Pump Regulations

The Department of Energy has specific regulations in place for pool pumps to help reduce energy consumption. Of note is the new variable speed pool pump law, effective as of July 19th, 2021. Essentially, variable speed pumps will be replacing many single speed pumps, since many of the latter don’t meet the minimum energy efficiency requirements. While homeowners won’t be required to replace their pumps, manufacturers will no longer be able to produce single speed pumps.

The general regulations are as follows:

All pumps that have more Total Horsepower (THP) of 1.0 must be variable speed pumps.
Pumps with more than 5.0 THP, waterfall pumps, and certain other pumps may be exempt from this rule.

					Hashim came out and replaced my spa heater earlier in the year and it was quickly and professionally done. Recently I called him up and asked him to replace my pressure pump for my pool cleaner. He came out and knew right away my 10 year pump was still working and i had a pressure problem with a gasket causing my problems. He’s very knowledgeable and can diagnose problems quickly! He went a head and replaced my pump at my request because i knew it was beyond its lifespan anyways and i didn’t want the worry! He did not upsell me. He gave me great advice on settings on my pool to save me money and run it more efficiently. I’ve had this pool for 10 years! No one else previously had given any recommendations on pool settings or even times i could set pump runs! I feel confident with his service and will use him again should or when i run into problems again! Thanks Hashim! .

					We've had a couple of plumbing leaks that we put off for months, getting by with DIY fixes. The problem got a bit worse over time, and we finally called Hashim, a name that was recommended on NextDoor. He was professional, on-time, and very responsive to my questions. Right away he told me they are minor fixes and talked me through some general issues and maintenance tips. He fixed the issues quickly and did a great job, and the price was very fair.
